OPENING UP THE ORIGINAL XBOX
The original Xbox is built like a fairly simple PC. From time to time you may wish to open it up to remove dust or perform other basic maintenance operations. Opening the console is simple, so long as you know the location of the six bolts which hold it together. This page shows you all you need to know.
To perform this task you will need:
To perform this task you will need:
- Mandatory: T20 screw bit.
- Optional: Pocket knife / scalpel / stanley knife. (Use this to cut neat holes in the stickers over the centre bolts).
Steps:
- Flip the console upside-down.
- Peel back each of the four rubber corner pads in turn, and use the T20 bit to unscrew the four outer bolts which are hidden underneath.
- Feel around for the two middle bolts which are each hidden under a sticker. You can push the T20 bit through the sticker to start unscrewing the underlying bolt straight through the sticker. Alternatively, once you've located the bolts, you can carefully cut around them using a pocket knife (or similar) to create neat holes in the stickers through which the bolts can be extracted.
- Once all six bolts are out, flip the console back over and slide the top half of the shell directly up and off. You have now opened up your console!
